Ukraine's Yaroslava Mahuchikh cleared an outright national record of 2.06m on her first attempt at the Banska Bystrica Latka high jump meeting - a leg of the World Indoor Series, hosted on a Mondo portable track - to move to equal third on the world indoor all-time list. Mahuchikh cleared 2.01m, 2.03m and 2.06m on her first attempts before drawing her competition to a close.
With this perfomance Mahuchikh is only 2 cm away from the indoor high jump record and 3 cm from the high jump record achieved at the 1987 Athletics World Championships by Stefka Kostadinova.
The Ukrainian athlete, silver on the Mondo track at the Doha World Championships in 2019, is a great favorite for the next indoor European Championships in March in Toruń, Poland, which will also take place on a Mondo track.
Elena Vallortigara hits 1.93m, adding seven centimeters to her debut last Wednesday in Udine (1.86), which also took place on a Mondo track.
In the men's competition, Gianmarco Tamberi from Italy defeated last year's winner Luis Zayas from Cuba on countback at 2.31m.
